About me: I live south of Missoula, Montana on the west side of the Bitterroot valley. Many of my photos are taken here in western Montana, but also around the world. I love being outdoors. I hike, bike, fish, hunt, ski and ALWAYS take photos.
I use a Canon 7D and 5D Mark III (with a few lenses and tripods) and shoot in RAW. I process my photos into JPG with Adobe Lightroom with as few adjustments as possible.
American Mink - Mustela vison
Mink on the Bitterroot River - this was the den area. Very cool spot on a nicely vegetated bank of the middle river.

This medium-sized, semi-aquatic carnivore has a long, thin body; short, sturdy legs; short, pointed nose; short, rounded ears, and a dorsoventrally flattened head. The tail is thickly furred and overall color is usually rich dark brown. Look also for a white chin patch and sometimes white spots on the belly. It is similar to the River Otter but is much smaller.
